As of 2019, 33 states, including Washington D.C., have legalized marijuana to some capacity. Almost ten more states are poised to legalize marijuana in some form in 2019. We now live in an age where it’s no longer a question of “if” marijuana will be legal in each state, but “how” it will be legalized.
How did we get here? How did a plant, which was once validated as medicine in the U.S. since 1851 until 1942, become labeled as one of the most dangerous and illegal narcotics; a change that would go on to affect millions of black and brown lives and aid in morphing the U.S. into the world’s leader in incarceration?
At the More than just Green: The Color of Cannabis event you will hear from experts from across the marijuana spectrum - community activists and educators, medical experts and journalists, politicians and more to educate the public to inform them of how marijuana prohibition came to be, how it's evolved, where legalization is now and what’s to come.
The goal is to elevate the collective understanding of cannabis with an aim to reverse the effects of decades-long propaganda and misinformation that’s stigmatized and marginalized communities for generations.
